Emperor Group Centre Leads with 100% Green Electricity Coverage, Supporting National "Dual Carbon" Goals

In the summer of 2024, Emperor Group Centre in Beijing took the lead in purchasing green electricity through the National Energy Administration’s Power Exchange Centre, obtaining the official Green Electricity Certificate (GEC). This marks the beginning of a new era of green power for the Centre, leading the way in low-carbon transformation among the capital's business buildings.

“Green electricity” refers to power generated from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, nuclear, hydro, and biomass resources. During the production process of green electricity, carbon dioxide emissions are zero or close to zero, resulting in lower environmental impact compared to thermal power generation.

The “Green Certificate”, formally known as GEC, serves as an “electronic ID” for renewable green power. It is an electronic certificate with a unique identification code issue for renewable energy power generation projects. The Green Certificate is China’s sole proof of environmental attributes for renewable energy power and the only credential for verifying renewable energy power production and consumption.

In recent years, both national and local authorities have issue various energy-saving and carbon-reduction policies to promote green energy usage. As an “electronic ID” for renewable energy, uniquely identifying the environmental attributes of green electricity production and consumption. In December 2023, the National Energy Administration initiated the meeting in Beijing for the Green Certificate issuance, providing authoritative “identification” for green electricity. In May 2024, the State Council released the “2024-2025 Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction Action Plan”, which emphasised accelerating the development of the green certificate trading market, ensuring coordination with the carbon market, and expanding green electricity consumption. On 26 August, the National Energy Administration issued the “Rules for the Issuance and Trading of Renewable Energy Green Electricity Certificates”. The improvement of the green certificate system will play a crucial role in promoting renewable energy development and utilisation, advancing energy structure transformation and upgrading, and guiding society-wide green consumption.

Through green electricity consumption, Emperor Group Centre is progressively achieving its carbon reduction targets. Green electricity offsets indirect carbon emissions in the carbon market. This commitment enhances the Group's sustainable development image, accelerating its transition to a clean, low-carbon future.

In the future, Emperor Group will continue to advocate, drive, and practise green sustainable development, fulfilling its commitment to environmental protection and contributing to a greener living environment.
